Bulgaria: Decreased electricity production by 11.3 % in 2020

Production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 15 March 2020 has decreased by 11.26 % compared to the same period in 2019 and reached 9.56 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO. Bulgaria’s electricity consumption dropped as well in the same period, by 1.96 % reaching a total of 9.22 TWh. Electricity exports dropped by 24 % in the same period to 1.49 TWh, while imports of electricity rose by 93.89 % to 1.15 TWh. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 15 % to 314.09 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 11.68 % to 417.21 GWh.
