UBM completes solar power plant in eastern Hungary

UBM, one of Hungary’s leading agricultural companies, has completed the construction of a 4 MW solar power plant in Nyírmeggyes, eastern Hungary, with an investment of approximately €4.5 million. The facility is expected to generate 5,880 MWh of electricity annually.

According to the company, 64% of the electricity required by UBM Feed’s feed mills and other facilities will now come from renewable sources. Planning for the solar plant began in April last year, with the primary objective of reducing UBM’s dependence on fossil fuels.

The new solar power plant will support sustainability efforts by supplying the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 1,300 to 1,500 households while reducing the company’s carbon dioxide emissions by up to 2,400 tons per year.

The project was financed through a combination of sources: 20% came from UBM’s own funds, 45% was provided by the state under the Factory Rescue Program, and the remaining portion was secured through a green loan backed by Eximbank and MBH Bank. UBM estimates that the investment will pay off within 7 to 14 years.
