Turkey, Record daily electricity consumption achieved on 4 August

According to data published by electricity transmission system operator TEIAS, Turkey’s daily electricity consumption increased by 0.91 % to 1,145,778 MWh on 4 August, compared to the previous day, breaking the previous record high. As temperatures continue to rise and electricity demand increases throughout the country, a new record high was set on Wednesday, surpassing the 1,135,427 MWh of consumed electricity recorded on 3 August.

Hourly electricity consumption peaked at 55,421 MWh at 15:00 local time. The country’s electricity usage dropped to its lowest level of 38,079 MWh at 07:00.

Electricity production amounted to 1,143,711 MWh on 4 August, marking a 4.87 % increase from the previous day. Turkey’s electricity generation from natural gas-fired power plants constituted 36.2 % of total electricity consumption, power plants running on imported coal contributed with 15.2 % while hydropower plants provided 19.7 % of consumed electricity.

On 4 August, Turkey’s electricity exports amounted to 14,683 MWh, while imports totaled 4,898 MWh.
