Turkey, BTC pipeline exported 13 million tons of crude oil in H1 2021

According to the pipeline’s operator BP Azerbaijan, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline exported more than 13 million tons of crude oil loaded on 137 tankers at Ceyhan terminal in the first quarter of 2021.

In January-June 2021, the Sangachal terminal (starting point of the BTC pipeline) exported about 115 million barrels of oil and condensate to world markets. This includes about 99 million barrels through Baku-Tbilisi- Ceyhan and about 16 million barrels through the Western Route Export Pipeline. In addition, about 55 million cubic meters of Shah Deniz gas were exported from the terminal daily in the first half of 2021.

488 million tons of Azeri crude oil delivered through the 1,776 kilometer-long BTC pipeline to Ceyhan port in southern Turkey was loaded on 4,796 oil tankers since its launch in 2006 to reach the global oil market.

The BTC pipeline delivers Azeri light crude loaded in Azerbaijani Haydar Aliyev marine terminal, originating mainly from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field, through Georgia to Turkey’s Mediterranean port of Ceyhan for further export via tankers.

BTC pipeline shareholders are: BP (30.1 %), AzBTC (25 %), MOL (8.9 %), Equinor (8.71 %), TPAO (6.53 %), Eni (5 %), Total (5 %), ITOCHU (3.4 %), INPEX (2.5 %), ExxonMobil (2.5 %) and ONGC BTC Limited (2.36 %).
