Solar and wind power trends shift across Europe in early November

During the week of November 3, solar photovoltaic (PV) production increased across all major European power markets compared to the previous week. France recorded the highest growth at 16 percent, while Spain saw the smallest increase at 4.9 percent. Germany, Italy, and Portugal registered growth rates of 10, 11, and 13 percent, respectively.

It was the second consecutive week of solar generation growth in Germany, while other markets reversed a previous downward trend. Several countries also achieved record levels of November solar generation:

  • Spain: 149 GWh on November 3
  • Portugal: 17 GWh on November 3
  • France: 74 GWh on November 4
  • Germany: 172 GWh on November 5
  • Italy: 83 GWh on November 5

According to AleaSoft Energy Forecasting, during the second week of November, solar PV output is expected to increase in Spain but decline in Italy and Germany.

In the same period, wind energy production also rose in the Iberian Peninsula, ending the downward pattern of the previous week. Spain saw the strongest rebound, up 42 percent, followed by Portugal with 35 percent. Meanwhile, Italy, France, and Germany continued to see declines for a second week, with decreases of 14, 37, and 55 percent, respectively.

For the week of November 10, AleaSoft forecasts that wind generation will rise in France, Germany, and Spain, but fall in Italy and Portugal, AleaSoft reports.
