Solar and wind energy trends: Record solar production in Iberia, mixed forecasts for Europe

During the week of June 23, solar photovoltaic (PV) energy production rose in both Italy and Spain compared to the previous week. Italy experienced the largest increase at 9.4%, while Spain saw a more modest rise of 0.6%, marking its third consecutive week of growth. Conversely, Germany, France, and Portugal experienced declines in solar PV generation, reversing the gains from the prior week. Germany recorded the sharpest drop at 20%, followed by France with a 12% decrease, and Portugal with a 2.6% decline.

Notably, the Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian markets set all-time highs for solar PV generation during the week. On June 26, the Iberian Peninsula reached record solar PV production, with Spain generating 235 GWh and Portugal 30 GWh. Italy set its own record on June 29, producing 157 GWh.

Looking ahead to the week of June 30, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting projects increases in solar PV generation for Germany and Spain. In contrast, Italy is expected to see a decline compared to the previous week. Germany is forecasted to have the largest increase at 160%, rebounding after two weeks of declines, while Spain is expected to grow by 11%. France and Italy are anticipated to continue their upward trends for the second consecutive week, with increases of 14% and 37%, respectively. Meanwhile, wind energy production in Portugal is forecasted to decline for the third consecutive week, falling by 5.1%.

On June 23, Germany recorded its second-highest daily wind energy production for the month of June, generating 676 GWh. Italy reached a notable wind generation milestone on June 28 with 123 GWh, the highest for June since June 16, 2023, when it produced 126 GWh.

For the first week of July, AleaSoft forecasts increased wind energy production on the Iberian Peninsula, while Italy, Germany, and France are expected to experience decreases, AleaSoft reports.
