Slovenia: Hydropower production remains on track despite unfavorable conditions

Unfavorable hydrological conditions have affected Slovenia this year, yet data from the first seven months of 2025 show that hydropower production remained within planned levels.

Hydropower plants on the Drava, Sava, and Soca rivers delivered just over 2,404 GWh to the transmission network between January and July. This is more than 25% lower than the same period in 2024, which experienced unusually high water inflows. However, the figure is 4.7% above projections in the national energy balance, highlighting that 2024 was an exceptional year and that long-term averages remain the most reliable planning benchmark.

In total, domestic power plants supplied 7,216.2 GWh to the network during the first seven months of 2025, down 8.4% year-on-year but only 0.2% below the planned target. Nuclear power plant Krško provided the largest share with 3,535.4 GWh, hydropower contributed 2,404.2 GWh, and thermal power plants added 1,276.7 GWh.
