Slovenia: HSE repaid 100 million euros to SDH

Slovenian state-owned energy company HSE has repaid 100 million euros of a 492 million euro capital financing carried out by state-owned sovereign holding company SDH, HSE said in a statement. It aims to refund a total of 242 million euros to SDH this year. The dynamics of the repayments will depend on the business circumstances and conditions in the energy market.

In December 2022, SDH injected 492 million euros into the capital of HSE to help the company bridge its liquidity gap and enable it to manage its electricity production. In March, HSE said it planned to repay the entire amount by the end of 2024.

HSE, fully owned by the Slovenian state, faced 460 million euros of damage in 2022 due to a 36% drop in the output of its hydropower plants caused by the drought, the temporary shutdown of Unit 6 of the coal-fired TPP Sostanj, and increased imports of electricity at extremely high prices.
