Slovenia: HSE plans 800 MW solar power plants by 2030

The HSE Group, the largest producer of electricity from renewable sources in Slovenia and the carrier of the country’s green transition to a carbon-free society, plans to build 800 MW of new solar power plants by 2030. HSE is also continuing with the preparation of documentation for the construction of floating solar power plants.

In May, HSE managing director Tomaz Stokelj said that the company plans to build a 140 MW floating solar power plant on Druzmirje Lake to compensate for the future reduction of electricity output at the coal-fired thermal power plant Sostanj. HSE is also planning the construction of a 20 MW floating solar power plant on Velenjsko Lake and solar power plants on landfills at the Velenje coal mine.

Eight solar power plants of the HSE Group produced 5,674 MWh of electricity in 2022. The total capacity of all solar power plants of the HSE Group is already almost 10 MW and the electricity produced is sufficient to supply approximately 1,350 households.
