Slovenia: Geoplin and Sonatrach extend natural gas supply agreement to strengthen energy partnership

Slovenian gas company Geoplin and Algeria’s Sonatrach have extended their natural gas supply agreement by two years. The renewed contract was signed during Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s visit to Slovenia.

Geoplin, part of the Petrol group, stated that the extension ensures a stable gas supply for Slovenia in the coming years. The deal guarantees uninterrupted delivery of natural gas to customers both domestically and abroad. It also strengthens energy ties between Geoplin and Sonatrach, highlighting their shared interest in exploring new partnership opportunities.

For Algeria, the agreement is strategically significant as it expands Sonatrach’s presence in the Slovenian energy market. This move aligns with growing European demand for natural gas, allowing the Algerian national producer and exporter to broaden its international reach.

The collaboration between the two companies reinforces Algeria’s global role and underscores its commitment to bilateral economic cooperation. The original contract, signed in November 2022 for three years, covered an annual supply of 300 million cubic meters of gas, with deliveries starting in 2023. During Slovenian Prime Minister Golob’s visit to Algeria in May, the supply volume was increased by 200 million cubic meters per year. Slovenia has also expressed interest in further extending the agreement beyond 2025.
