Slovenia: Electricity generation sees significant growth in October 2024

According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the country’s net electricity generation in October 2024 saw a significant increase of 77% compared to the same month last year. Total net electricity generation reached 1,550 GWh, which is a 19% rise compared to the previous month.

In terms of production sources, thermal power plant output decreased by 4% compared to October 2023, while production in hydropower plants rose by 55%. The nuclear power plant in Krško underwent maintenance in October 2024, resulting in a 517% increase in production. Wind and solar power production also saw a notable increase of 44%.

Regarding imports and exports, Slovenia imported 697 GWh of electricity in October 2024, which is 28% less than in October 2023, while it exported 1,146 GWh, reflecting a 48% increase compared to the previous year.

In terms of electricity consumption, households consumed 246 GWh, representing a 6% increase compared to September, while commercial consumers used 571 GWh, marking a 5% decrease.

The supply of energy commodities in general saw an uptick in October, with notable exceptions such as a 26% drop in hard coal supply, a 21% decrease in kerosene supply, and an 8% decline in diesel supply. However, the supply of lignite and brown coal rose by 36%, heating oil by 29%, other petroleum products by 21%, natural gas by 10%, LPG by 7%, and petrol by 5%.

Compared to October 2023, the supply of heating oil increased by 14%, hard coal by 9%, petrol by 8%, natural gas by 3%, and kerosene by 3%.
