Slovenia, Czech Republic has signed an agreement to statistically transfer renewable energy surplus in the amount of 465 GWh

The Ministry of Industry of the Czech Republic announced that it has signed an agreement to statistically transfer renewable energy surplus in the amount of 465 GWh to Slovenia in exchange for 5 million euros.

The Czech Republic, which has already met the obligatory target share of renewable energy sources in its energy mix for 2020, has signed an agreement for the statistical transfer of the renewable energy surplus to Slovenia before the start of the European Energy Council in Brussels. According to regulations, those EU member states that have RES production higher than their national targets can offer these surpluses to other member states which fail to meet their annual targets.

In 2020, Slovenia produced 5,600 GWh of electricity from renewable energy sources, which is about 33 % of its entire electricity generation. Most of Slovenia’s RES output, namely 93 %, was accounted to hydropower plants.
