Slovenia and Hungary signed a MoU on the gas interconnection project

Slovenia and Hungary have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the preparation of the construction of a gas interconnection between the distribution systems of the two countries, the Slovenian government said.

The Slovenian and Hungarian energy ministries commit to supporting system operators in building a two-way gas pipeline with an annual capacity of 440 mcm.

The governments of both countries will aim to conclude an agreement on the solidarity gas supply when an interconnection point between the distribution systems is established.

According to local media reports, Hungarian operator FGSZ plans to build a pipeline linking the town of Tornyiszentmiklos to the Slovenian border under the project. Slovenia’s Plinovodi plans to launch in 2026 a 75-kilometer gas pipeline linking Kidricevo to Pince and an additional compressor unit in Kidricevo to ensure two-way capacity.
