Shikun and Binui launches first solar power plant in Romania, expands renewable energy portfolio

Shikun and Binui, a long-time player in Romania’s real estate sector and an expanding investor in renewable energy, has received a commercial operation permit for its first solar project in the country—a 71 MW solar power plant located in Satu Mare.

With the permit in place, Shikun and Binui Energy Satu Mare can now register on the electricity market and begin selling power. The project was financed through a 40 million euro loan secured from Raiffeisen Bank two years ago, demonstrating the company’s ability to attract international funding for large-scale energy developments. Now that construction is complete, the plant is ready to supply electricity to the grid once the license becomes active.

Shikun and Binui Energy focuses on the development, construction, and operation of renewable energy assets, including solar, solar thermal, pump-storage, agrivoltaics, and battery storage systems. The company also operates gas-fired power plants in Israel, Italy, the United States, and Romania. Its global portfolio stands at approximately 6.2 GW, with 3.1 GW of installed capacity generating 8.3 TWh in the previous year.

The company is continuing to expand its renewable energy pipeline. In June 2024, its subsidiary Green Energy Dynamic received technical approval for the 376 MW Gold Wind onshore wind farm in Constanța County. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
