Serbia: Solar panel installation underway at Petka solar power plant

The installation of solar panels is currently underway at the Petka solar power plant, located on an 11.6-hectare site. Once completed, the plant will have an installed capacity of 9.75 MW and is expected to produce 15.6 GWh of electricity annually. Dušan Živković, General Director of the state-owned power utility EPS, stated that the goal is to finish the project by mid-February. This development is expected to contribute significantly to the transformation of EPS’s energy portfolio, enhancing both the security and stability of Serbia’s electricity supply.

Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedović, emphasized that the Petka solar power plant is the first of several solar parks being developed by EPS on former mining waste disposal sites. She noted that the plant, set to connect to the grid in the first quarter of 2025, will be complemented by EPS’s first wind farm, also slated to begin operations next year. Furthermore, Djedović highlighted EPS’s ambitious plans, including a major 1,000 MW solar project paired with a 200 MW battery storage system, which will significantly reshape the company’s production portfolio and contribute to Serbia’s renewable energy goals.
