Serbia: SEEPEX reports significant growth in July 2024 electricity trading

In July 2024, the Serbian energy exchange SEEPEX saw a substantial increase in trading activity. A total of 493,486.7 MWh of electricity was traded on the day-ahead market, marking an 18.34% rise from the previous month, with an average daily trading volume of 15,918.9 MWh. This represents a 38.1% increase compared to the same month in the previous year.

The average base price on the day-ahead market reached €134.29/MWh, up 37% from June, while the average euro-peak price surged to €123.20/MWh, a 48.1% increase. On the intraday market, 11,782.5 MWh were traded at an average price of €130.38/MWh.

SEEPEX, which officially launched on February 17, 2016, with a trading volume of 1,925 MWh, is co-owned by the Serbian electricity transmission system operator EMS and the European PowerExchange (EPEX SPOT). Its aim is to foster a competitive, transparent, and reliable electricity market in Serbia and southeastern Europe. The exchange expanded its services with the introduction of an intraday market in July 2023, contributing to the significant growth in trading volumes in the region.
