Serbia: Preparations for the construction of oil pipeline between Serbia and Hungary

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic and the head of the Provincial Government, Igor Mirovic, held the meeting about the infrastructure projects aimed at increasing the capacities for the storage of oil and oil products.

The two officials talked about the preparations for the realization of the project of the construction of oil pipeline between Serbia and Hungary, one of the strategic projects of the Serbian Government. They pointed out the importance of the construction of this oil pipeline for getting another route of crude oil supply.

At the meeting, there was also talk about the construction of the Pannonian corridor for the transfer of electricity, as well as the project of the construction of a gas-fired power plant in Novi Sad.

In June, Serbia and Hungary have signed several agreements, including those for the construction of a new oil pipeline and the establishment of a joint company for gas trading. Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic said that, by constructing a new oil pipeline to Hungary,

E which will cost 157 million euros, Serbia will V ensure a more secure supply for its domestic EN refineries and, consequently, the domestic

TS market.

Currently, Serbia has only one direction for crude oil supply, through Croatia, and for greater security, it needs diversification of sources and supply routes, as it has been done in the natural gas sector. This project is listed as a priority investment and is considered strategic in the field of oil supply, Minister Djedovic said.

The estimated value of the Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline project, with a capacity of 5.5 million tons per year, is 157 million euros for the Serbian section of the pipeline. The planned route of the new pipeline is Szazhalombatta-Algyo-Roszke-Novi Sad, with a total length of 304 kilometers, and there is a potential extension to Thessaloniki (Greece) and Durres (Albania).
