Serbia is a leader in implementing of acquis i the Energy Community

The Energy Community said in its annual report that Serbia was a top performer in the past year in terms of implementing its regulations.

The Annual Implementation Report covers the period between November 2022 through October 2023.

“In this year’s report, Serbia emerged as the top performer, followed by Montenegro and Ukraine. With the revised Energy Law, Serbia made headway by creating the basis for the compliant unbundling of the electricity and gas transmission system operators. It also accounts for the biggest mover in the area of decarbonisation during the reporting period,” the report said.

It added that Serbia should focus on the transposition and implementation of the Electricity Integration Package as a precondition for the coupling of its short-term markets and certify the gas transmission and storage operators, grant third-party access at the interconnection points and remove any other obstacles to new market entrants.

The report said that Serbia made moderate progress on the environment because environmental impact assessments are still not regulated in a compliant manner, which should be addressed without further delay.

Serbian Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic commented on the report saying that it confirms that a big job was done by the current government. A ministry press release quoted her as saying that Serbia also successfully conducted the biggest organized auction to allocate market premiums for renewable energy sources resulting in the investment of more than a billion Euro in 9 green power plants to be constructed.
