Serbia, Government sets the price of electricity for July and August

Given the increase in electricity prices on the European markets, the Government of Serbia adopted a conclusion recommending the state- owned power utility EPS to charge the reserve electricity supply to end consumers who are not entitled to guaranteed supply between 1 July and 31 August at the price of 97.5 euros/MWh without VAT, in order not to jeopardize the business and economic environment in Serbia.

The statement from the Government said that, in order to protect the market, economy and security of citizens, a decision was made that in the same time period, from 1 July to 31 August, the price of electricity for customers in the commercial market will be 75 euros/MWh without VAT.

Electricity prices were already frozen at this level since 1 January 2022.

Last month, EPS requested the increase in the price of electricity of between 20 and 40 %, which was backed by the Minister Of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic, who said that the increase in inevitable in order to remedy financial situation of EPS. However, the request was blocked by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who said that now is not the time for price increases.

For the supply of consumers in the commercial market EPS requested the price of 220 euros/MWh after 30 June.
