Serbia: Fortis Energy secures permits for 509.4 MW wind projects

Fortis Energy has announced the acquisition of preliminary permits for three major wind projects in Serbia, totaling a combined capacity of 509.4 MW.

The Serbian transmission system operator EMS has confirmed the network connection for the 171 MW Vranje wind farm and the 194.4 MW Gornjak wind farm. The preliminary permit process is also underway for the 144 MW Juhor wind farm.

These wind farms are projected to produce 1.5 billion kWh of renewable energy annually, sufficient to power 750,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by 350,000 tons per year.

Fortis Energy is currently conducting wind measurements and resource assessments at the project sites. The company estimates the total investment for these projects at 550 million euros and notes that they will contribute to various sectors including civil and electrical engineering, logistics, maintenance, security, and telecommunications.

In addition to the wind projects, Fortis Energy recently acquired a 180 MW solar project with a 36 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) near Sremska Mitrovica, with construction slated to start in 2025. The company is also developing solar projects at four locations in Serbia, with a total capacity of 500 MW and integrated storage solutions.
