Serbia: EPS begins testing new B3 unit at TPP Kostolac B

Serbian state-owned power utility EPS has initiated equipment testing for the new B3 unit at TPP Kostolac B, which is preparing for its trial run. This involves operating the unit at full power while connected to the network for 168 hours to ensure all systems function correctly.

EPS General Director Dusan Zivkovic highlighted that the upcoming warranty tests are crucial for verifying the unit’s operational capabilities. The B3 unit, which is slated for handover to EPS in October, has adhered to high standards of equipment quality, environmental protection, and system security. Once operational, it is expected to be a top performer in Serbia’s energy sector, boasting impressive efficiency and quality.

EPS Supervisory Board member Dejan Ostojic noted that the B3 unit represents a major advancement for both EPS and Serbia’s energy security. As the largest unit constructed in decades, it is anticipated to produce 2,000 GWh of electricity annually, replacing older, less efficient units. This will not only enhance energy reliability but also contribute to reduced environmental impact and superior energy quality.
