Serbia: EJB and EWG to deliver 470,000 smart meters

In April, Serbian electricity distribution system operator EDS launched a tender for the procurement and installation of 470,000 smart meters, worth around 110 million euros, without VAT. EDS requested bids from suppliers for 300,000 three-phase and 90,000 single-phase measuring devices and for 80,000 metering groups.

Local consortium Energotehnika – Juzna Backa and EWG submitted only the bid within the planned scope of the call, with whom EDS will sign a contract for the supply of the meters.

EJB, in which Hungarian company MVM holds a 33% stake, will do 21% of the work, domestic metering devices manufacturer EWG will handle 53% of the work and the remaining 25.9% will be subcontracted to 106 companies.

Among them, the largest portion of the work will be carried out by Sitel and Meter and Control. The new meters will contribute to reducing losses in the network, preventing unauthorized electricity consumption or theft and will enable real-time consumption monitoring.
