Serbia: Desulphurization facility at TENT B nears completion, following TENT A’s successful launch

The desulphurization facility at the TENT B thermal power plant is nearing the end of its construction phase. Civil works have been completed, and commissioning is underway with staged testing of individual components. The initial release of flue gases and limestone slurry through Absorber B1 was successfully conducted, with a similar trial for Absorber B2 scheduled for mid-August, according to the Ministry of Mining and Energy.

To date, over 400 million euros have been invested in desulphurization facilities at both TENT A and TENT B, making this the largest environmental investment by the state-owned power utility EPS. A comparable system at TENT A was completed last year. Both plants are expected to bring significant environmental improvements and enhance public health in Obrenovac and neighboring areas.

Installing desulphurization equipment at Serbia’s main thermal power plants is vital for extending their operational lifespan while aligning with environmental and energy security objectives. With TENT A’s system already successfully completed and tested, focus now turns to finishing TENT B on schedule to begin trial operations before the end of 2025.

The Ministry of Mining and Energy continues to actively support these projects, emphasizing their importance in securing energy supply and protecting environmental quality. Ongoing cooperation with EPS aims to ensure funding and prioritize both primary and secondary environmental protection measures within the thermal power sector.
