Serbia and the US set to strengthen energy cooperation

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic and US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill recently discussed enhancing collaboration in the energy sector between the two countries. They agreed that an agreement on strategic cooperation in energy would be signed soon.

Minister Djedovic emphasized the USA’s role as one of the largest investors in Serbia over the past decade, expressing confidence that the forthcoming agreement would attract new investments, thereby enhancing energy security and facilitating a transition to clean energy sources. She noted significant progress in attracting investments in the past two years, thanks to improvements in the legal framework and the successful implementation of auctions for renewable energy market premiums.

Djedovic also mentioned the completion of a preliminary feasibility study for the Djerdap 3 pump-storage hydropower plant, indicating that technical and economic analyses would determine the optimal capacities for the future facility. HPP Djerdap 3 is expected to be a cornerstone of Serbia’s energy system, helping to balance energy from new solar and wind power plants while ensuring supply stability.

Ambassador Hill expressed satisfaction with the development of energy projects involving US companies and noted that the forthcoming agreement in Washington would further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
