Russia and Serbia poised to extend gas supply agreement ahead of expiration

Anton Kobyakov, aide to the President of Russia, has announced that the current gas supply agreement between Russia and Serbia could be extended by the end of September. The extension is expected to be finalized before the Russian Economic Week, which is scheduled to take place in Moscow later this month.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that negotiations for a new gas supply agreement should begin soon, given that the existing agreement is set to expire in March 2025. The current three-year agreement, signed in 2022 amid the energy crisis, allows Russia to supply Serbia with 2.2 billion cubic meters of gas annually at a preferential price between $300 and $420 per 1,000 cubic meters. This arrangement has enabled Serbia to shield its economy from soaring market prices over the past two years, ensuring that gas prices for both the population and the economy remain among the lowest in Europe.
