Romgaz plans to enter household gas market with new IT system and competitive offers

Romanian state-owned natural gas producer Romgaz is preparing to launch its first offers for household consumers in the third quarter of this year. The company is currently working on acquiring the IT system necessary to manage household customer accounts. This new platform will be essential for handling contracts and billing for both gas and electricity, and it will have the capacity to support an unlimited number of consumption points.

Romgaz aims to leverage its internal synergies to offer competitive prices, similar to how Hidroelectrica operates in the electricity sector. The company expects to be less vulnerable to market price fluctuations compared to other suppliers.

Currently, most household consumers receive gas from E.ON and Engie, which also manage Romania’s two regional distribution networks. In January, Romgaz initiated a tender for the IT system, with the selection process expected to be completed by May. Once the contract is awarded, the chosen provider must deliver the required hardware infrastructure within 45 days and fully implement the platform within an additional 45 days, for a total deployment period of 90 days.

This marks a significant step for Romgaz as it moves forward in entering the residential gas supply market.
