Romania: Wind energy capacity set for steady growth with 1.5 GW increase by 2027

WindEurope estimates that Romania’s wind energy capacity will gradually expand in the coming years, with new wind farms expected to add 380 MW in 2024, 490 MW in 2025, and 600 MW in 2027. This represents a total increase of nearly 1.5 GW over the next three years.

In 2023, only 50 MW of new wind capacity was commissioned, following a five-year period of stagnation during which Romania’s total wind power capacity remained around 3.0 GW. Wind energy accounted for approximately 12% of the country’s electricity generation last year.

The projected growth marks a renewed push to expand Romania’s renewable energy sector, contributing to the country’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and enhance energy security.
