Romania’s gas transmission operator Transgaz has requested an environmental permit to connect the Tuzla-Podisor pipeline—which will transport offshore Black Sea gas to the national grid—with the regional transmission lines T2 and T3. These north-south pipelines link Greece and Bulgaria with Ukraine and Moldova.
The project would allow Black Sea gas to flow beyond Romania’s domestic market into regional interconnectors, reversing the current one-way delivery system toward Ukraine.
The move has sparked debate, as offshore reserves were originally expected to prioritize Romanian consumption, with exports allowed only for surplus volumes. Romanian law also grants the state pre-emptive purchase rights through its gas reserves before any international sales can take place.
