Romania: Transelectrica secured 64 million euros EU funding

Romanian transmission systemoperator Transelectrica has secured non-reimbursable financing worth 64.1 million euro through the European Union’s Modernisation Fund for one of its investment projects in the southeastern county of Tulcea.

“The project aims at building a 400 kV double circuit overhead electric line between the stations Isaccea and Tulcea West by replacing the existing 400 kV simple circuit overhead electric line, installing two 400 kV cells in the two stations and using some innovative tubular pillars,” Transelectrica said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

Switching the Isaccea – Tulcea West electric line from simple circuit to double circuit will enable it to avoid overloads and will increase its integration capacity for new renewable energy sources in the southeastern Dobrogea area, which has the highest renewable energy potential in the country, as per the statement.

The project is included in Transelectrica’s network development plan for the 2022-2031 period, which has a total value of 1.4 billion euro, of which approximately 500 million euro will be disbursed through the EU’s Modernisation Fund and REPowerEU.

Funded by revenues from the auction of emission allowances from the EU’s Emissions Trading System, the Modernisation Fund assists ten EU countries with lower incomes in their transition to climate neutrality by 2050, seenews.com reports.
