Romania, Transelectrica announced it completed the modernization of the Hasdat substation

Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica announced it completed the modernization of the 220/110 kV Hasdat substation in Hunedoara county, an investment of more than 12 million euros.

The works on the substation’s modernization, started in 2018, were performed by the consortium led by Siemens Energy.

The modernization of the 220/110 kV Hasdat substation, put into operation in 1970, aimed to bring the installations to a level of safety and reliability corresponding to the area in terms of energy, by using modern technologies. The investment will help increase the quality of energy transmission service and increase the safety of consumers connected to the electricity transmission network.

The reconstruction of the 220 kV and 110 kV voltage level networks creates the premises for reducing maintenance costs, as well as for remote monitoring and diagnosis of equipment. The 220/110 kV Hasdat substation is an important substation within the national electricity system and especially for the central area of Transylvania and the Jiu Valley, considering that it ensures the supply of 110/20 kV substations, managed by the electricity distributors. Also, at the level of 220 kV, the system takes over the energy produced by the Hidroelectrica’s HPP Retezat.

The reconstruction of the 220/110 kV substations is part of an extensive investment plan for the modernization and development of the electric transmission network, with a value of some 1 billion euros for the next 10 years.

Transelectrica manages and operates a network of over 9,000 kilometers of high voltage overhead transmission lines (400 kV, 220 kV and 110 kV) and 81 transformer stations throughout the country.
