Romania: Solar power plant acquisition for SAPE

The owner of the 5 MW Darvari solar power plant is local company Foto Solar, controlled by the Italian businessman Angelo Gruttadauria, the former majority owner and manager of the metallurgical plant Ductil Steel. Romanian State Energy Management Company (SAPE), which holds the state’s minority stakes in energy companies, is planning to acquire 5 MW solar power plant in Prahova county and expand it by additional 4.5 MW.

At the end of January, SAPE obtained a provisional license for the commercial exploitation of electricity production capacities from the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE), following a joint application with the current owner of the Darvari solar power plant. Last year, SAPE, Hidroelectrica and electricity distributor and supplier Electrica placed a joint bid for the purchase of Romanian assets of Czech energy company CEZ. Hidroelectrica was reportedly interested in CEZ’ wind farms, while Electrica was interested in the company’s electricity distribution business. However, CEZ accepted the offer submitted by the Australian group Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA).
