Romania: R.Power to build 55 MW solar power plant, expanding Eastern European portfolio

Polish renewable energy developer R.Power has unveiled plans to construct a 55 MW solar power plant in northwestern Romania, marking another step in its expansion across Eastern Europe. Known as the Lazuri solar power plant, the project is set to begin construction in the third quarter of 2025 and is expected to be fully operational by the third quarter of 2026.

Located in Satu Mare County, the facility will be connected to Romania’s transmission network through a newly built 110 kV loop-in/loop-out switching station. This station will be integrated into the existing Vetis–Abator overhead transmission line, enabling efficient electricity transfer without disrupting the current infrastructure.

Upon completion, Lazuri is expected to produce around 70 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to supply more than 48,000 households. The plant is part of a broader R.Power portfolio in Romania, which includes four projects totaling 85 MW that secured 15-year contracts for difference in the country’s recent renewable energy auction.
