Romania: PPC Renewables begins construction of Deleni wind farm, set to become largest in Moldova region

PPC Renewables Romania has commenced turbine installation at the Deleni wind project in Vaslui County, marking the start of what will become the largest wind farm in Romania’s Moldova region. Once completed, the facility will feature 23 wind turbines with a combined installed capacity of 140 MW.

The project employs GE Vernova turbines rated at 6.1 MW each, nearly three times more powerful than the units used in Romania’s previous large-scale wind developments over a decade ago. Each turbine has a hub height of 121 meters and blades measuring 77.4 meters in length.

The Deleni wind farm is expected to generate around 370 GWh annually, enough to supply electricity to approximately 100,000 households. It will also reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 215,000 tons per year. Infrastructure across the communes of Deleni, Costesti, and Bogdanesti has been designed to accommodate both current production and future integration of energy storage facilities.

With the completion of Deleni, PPC Renewables Romania will raise its total renewable capacity to about 1.5 GW. Its parent company, PPC Group, operating in Greece, Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria, has expanded its renewable portfolio from 4.7 GW in early 2024 to 6.3 GW by mid-2025. With 3.7 GW of projects currently under construction or shovel-ready, the group aims to reach 11.8 GW of installed capacity by 2027.

The development of wind power in Moldova diversifies Romania’s renewable energy landscape beyond the Dobrogea region, providing new capacity to address imbalances in northern electricity production while supporting local communities.
