Romania: Photon Energy and Hyperion Renewables to build 34 MW solar power plant

Photon Energy and Hyperion Renewables have signed an agreement to construct a 34 MW solar power plant in Săliște, Romania. The project will be carried out under an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, with plans to expand the plant’s capacity to 38 MW. Construction is set to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with the facility expected to become operational about a year later.

This project marks a major milestone for Hyperion Renewables, a Portuguese renewable energy company. Since entering the Romanian market in 2021, Hyperion has developed a greenfield solar project pipeline exceeding 500 MW. The Săliște solar power plant is the first of these projects to move into the construction phase.

Photon Energy will handle the design, technology procurement, and full construction of the solar plant. The company will also provide operations and maintenance services for the first three years after the plant becomes operational.

The collaboration underscores both companies’ commitment to supporting Romania’s transition to renewable energy. Photon Energy contributes its extensive expertise in large-scale solar projects, while Hyperion’s investment demonstrates a long-term strategy to expand clean energy infrastructure in the region.

For Hyperion, the Săliște project represents the launch of its first solar initiative in Romania, turning development plans into concrete progress. For Photon Energy, the project highlights its role in delivering comprehensive solar energy solutions that support the country’s energy transformation goals.
