Romania: Parapet begins construction on 108 MW solar project for Nofar Energy

Romanian turnkey solar and hybrid project developer Parapet has announced the start of construction on a 108 MW solar project for Israeli renewables investor Nofar Energy. Situated in Ghimpati, Giurgiu County, the project is expected to generate approximately 145 GWh of renewable electricity annually.

The Ghimpesti solar power plant is part of a broader initiative that includes a sister project in Iepuresti, also located in Giurgiu County. Both projects are being developed by local firms RTG Solar Energy and Solis Imperium, which are majority-owned by Nofar Energy.

Last month, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), in collaboration with Austrian Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI), announced a financing package of €110 million to support Nofar Energy in constructing and operating the two solar projects in Romania. Once completed, the combined capacity of the Ghimpesti and Iepuresti solar power plants will reach 300 MW, producing 386 GWh of green energy annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 160,000 tons each year.
