The investment worth some 800,000 euros was completed six months before the deadline, construction of this line section will increase the cross-border capacity with Hungary to 1,000 MW as Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica said that the 400 kV Oradea Su –Nadab overhead transmission line was put into operation, thus making it possible for the entire 400 kV Oradea Sud – Nadab – Bekescsaba (Hungary) section to enter commercial operation.
Transelectrica’s CEO Catalin Nitu said that the commissioning of the 400 kV Line Oradea Sud – Bekescsaba (Hungary) is a success in terms of securing electricity in the northwestern part of the country, thus allowing a sustainable economic development of this area, both through the possibility of connecting new consumers, as well as new renewable power plants. This investment has a significant contribution to increasing the safety of the national electricity system, to reducing the costs of managing network congestion and to reducing its own technological consumption. One of the most important benefits is that it will allow the implementation of important investment and major maintenance programs in the area, with an impact on improving the technical performance and reliability of the electricity transmission network.
The Oradea–Beckescsaba 400 kV overhead transmission line project was initiated in 2006, and since 2008 the Oradea Sud-Nadab section has been in conservation, due to difficulties related mainly to expropriation procedures. The investment, which will increase the country’s interconnection capacity and contribute to the completion of Romania’s 400 kV ring, was resumed this summer after more than 12 years of blockages. Works on the section started in August and were performed by Electromontaj Bucharest.
Oradea-Bekescsaba 400 kV overhead transmission line project, a total investment of over 18 million euros, has been partially put into use since 2008, namely the 400 kV Nadab (RO)–Bekescsaba (HU) section with a length of 60 kilometers, of which 22 kilometers on the territory of Romania. The Oradea Sud–Nadab section has a total length of 72 kilometers and is partially completed.
