Romania, Investment Committee approved the amount of some 1.4 billion euros to finance important projects for the modernization of the energy sector

According to Romanian Ministry of Energy, the Investment Committee approved the amount of some 1.4 billion euros to finance, from the Modernization Fund, important projects for the modernization of the Romanian energy sector.

Energy Minister Virgil Popescu said that in the next period, the Ministry will also approve the emergency ordinance regulating the institutional framework and financial flows for the operationalization of the Modernization Fund.

8 projects for the production of electricity from renewable sources submitted by EC Oltenia will cost some 670 million euros, of which 469.5 million euros will be provided from the Modernization Fund:

Construction of a solar power plant on the Bohorelu ash dump;

Construction of a solar power plant on the Pinoasa quarry;

Construction of a solar power plant on the Rovinari Est ash dump;

Construction of a solar power plant on closed

ash and slag deposits at TPP Isalnita;

Construction of a solar power plant on closed ash and slag depots at TPP Rovinari;

Construction of a solar power plant on closed ash and slag depots at TPP Turceni;

Construction of a solar power plant on the inner dump within the Tismana 1 quarry;

Construction of a solar power plant on the inner dump within the Tismana 2 quarry.

Another two gas-fired projects for EC Oltenia, at TPP Isalnita worth a total of 506 million euros, of which 253 million euros will be provided from the Modernization Fund, and at TPP Turceni, in a total amount of 335 million euros, of which 167.5 million from the Modernization Fund.

Projects submitted by electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica in a total amount of 475.5 million euros, of which 393.5 million euros will be provided from the Modernization Fund:

400 kV OHL Gadalin-Suceava;
Switching to the 400 kV voltage of the Portile de Fier – Resita – Timisoara – Sacalaz – Arad axis stage II;

Switching to the 400 kV voltage of the Portile de Fier – Resita – Timisoara – Sacalaz – Arad axis stage III;

Switching to 400 kV LEA Brazi Vest – Teleajen – Stalpu;

Pilot project – Digitalization of Alba Iulia substation;

Modernization of Sibiu Sud and Bradu substations;

Optimization of the operation of the existing 400 kv OHLs for NPP Cernavoda and the renewable energy power plants in Dobrogea region, by installing online monitoring systems.

Funds have also been approved for the modernization of electricity distribution networks, amounting to a total of 1.2 billion euros, of which over 100 million euros will be allocated this year.
