Romania: Hidroelectrica to sell over 3 TWh on regulated market in 2020

The largest Romanian electricity producer Hidroelectrica is obliged by the order issued by the National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE) to sell electricity to suppliers of last resort in 2020 at the price of 21.4 euros/MWh, which is even lower than the price in the previous year – 23.45 euros/ MWh.

In its business plan for 2020, Hidroelectrica expected a slight increase in regulated price, if not maintain them at this year’s level. In addition, the company will have to supply around 1.84 TWh of electricity in the first half of 2020. With the maximum limits of the quantities that can be requested in the second quarter, of 1.31 TWh, it results a total of 3.1 TWh of electricity that Hidroelectrica will have to sell at a low prices, in the last year of the regulated market in Romania.
Electricity producer Nuclearelectrica, which operates Romania’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, is also affected by this order. In the first half of 2020, the company is obliged to sell 1.08 TWh (roughly 10.5 % of its production) of electricity at the regulated market. However, prices paid to Nuclearelectrica are significantly higher – 39.45 euros/MWh.
