Romania: Hidroelectrica signs €20M maintenance deal with Vestas for Crucea Nord wind farm and plans 36 MW battery storage integration

Hidroelectrica has selected the local subsidiary of Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas to handle maintenance for the wind turbines at the Crucea Nord wind farm. The five-year agreement, valued at €20 million before VAT, covers full upkeep of the Vestas V112 – 3 MW MK1a turbines and associated SCADA, PPC, and AEOS control systems.

Under the contract, Vestas will provide predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance, remote monitoring, delivery and installation of replacement parts, as well as supply tools, materials, and expert personnel. Hidroelectrica stated that the partnership will enhance operational reliability at the Crucea facility and ensure continuous production through professional servicing.

In parallel, Hidroelectrica plans to integrate a lithium-ion battery storage system at the site. The system will feature a rated output of 36 MW and an energy storage capacity of 72 MWh, supporting a transition toward hybrid operations and improving output stability.

The Crucea Wind Farm, with an installed capacity of 108 MW, has been part of Hidroelectrica’s portfolio since 2021.
