Romania, Hidroelectrica is reportedly considering the construction of a 1.5 GW solar power plant

Romanian hydro-based electricity producer Hidroelectrica is reportedly considering the construction of a 1.5 GW solar power plant in Dabuleni in southern Romania, under an arrangement that would involve the state assets company ADS through a 3,000 hectares plot of land provided for the project.

The project is expected to get financing under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, which means the project should be completed by the end of 2026. It would be the largest solar power plant in Romania and would involve investments of some 1.2 billion euros.

However, the project is not confirmed by the company’s management, but it is included among the ten major projects of Hidroelectrica which obtained the strategic importance status from the State Security Council, which means that the needed permits would be granted under accelerated procedures.

Currently, the largest solar power plant under development in Romania is a 1,000 MW project developed in Arad by Monsson worth some 800 million euros, financed by the British investment fund Actis through the company Rezolv Energy.
