Romania: Hidroelectrica embarks on major modernization projects for hydropower plants

Romanian electricity producer Hidroelectrica has signed significant contracts with the consortium of Hidroserv and UCMH for the modernization of three key hydropower plants: Vaduri, Remeti and Arcesti.

Details of the contracts:

  • HPP Vaduri: The project will modernize Unit 2, the 110 kV substation, and the associated mechanical and electrical equipment, including those related to the dam. The contract is valued at €15.8 million.
  • HPP Remeti: This contract includes modernization of Unit 2, the 110 kV substation, general installations, the pressure node, and the Dragan Dam. The contract is worth €29 million.
  • HPP Arcesti: The works will modernize Unit 2 and replace the automation and monitoring systems for Unit 1. The contract has a basic value of €16.5 million.

Hidroelectrica’s CEO, Karoly Borbelly, emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining its profitability while undertaking these essential modernization projects. He noted that these efforts are crucial for sustaining Hidroelectrica’s leading position in the energy market and enhancing Romania’s energy security. The modernization of these hydropower plants is a strategic move to ensure a safe and efficient energy portfolio, with infrastructure investments being fundamental to the country’s energy stability.
