Romania extends deadline for electricity storage investment projects to February 2025

The Romanian Ministry of Energy has extended the deadline for submitting projects under the call for investments aimed at developing electricity storage capacities, with funding from the Modernization Fund. The new deadline is set for 17 February 2025, giving potential applicants an additional month to prepare and submit their proposals.

The terms and conditions of the call remain unchanged, with eligible storage systems required to absorb at least 75% of their annual energy from a connected renewable energy facility. The selection process for the projects will be competitive, based on the amount of state aid requested per MWh of installed storage capacity from eligible project costs.

Applicants must have legal rights to the renewable energy facility to which the storage system will be directly connected and must submit proof of having received a trial-period energizing notification from the relevant network operator when applying. At the contracting stage, a connection certificate and final energizing document will also be required.

The total estimated budget for the program is 150 million euros, provided through non-refundable funding from the Modernization Fund. State aid can cover up to 100% of the project costs, with a cap of 10 million euros per enterprise or project. The maximum state aid available per MWh of installed storage capacity is set at 100,000 euros.
