Romania exported 1.2 TWh net in the first two months

Romania was a net exporter of electricity in the first quarter of 2023 due to reduced consumption and increased renewable energy production at hydropower plants and wind farms.

Total electricity production was over 10 TWh in the first two months, while consumption amounted to 8.9 TWh, according to data provided by electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica,

Romania was a net exporter of electricity in the first two months of the year, with a positive export-import balance of nearly 1.2 TWh. The same situation continued in March, according to data published by OMV Petrom.

The company’s Q1 2023 report said that national electricity consumption decreased by 10% in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the same quarter of 2022, while electricity production increased by 4%, leading Romania to become a net exporter of electricity in Q1 2023, compared to Q1 2022 when it was importing electricity.
