Romania: Engie expands renewable portfolio with new 37.2 MW solar power plant in Prahova

Engie Romania has completed its sixth solar power plant in Aricestii Rahtivani commune, Prahova county, with an installed capacity of 37.2 MW. This marks a significant step in the company’s renewable energy expansion and commitment to the energy transition. The new facility covers 57 hectares and is expected to generate about 57 GWh of clean electricity annually—enough to power over 31,000 households—and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 5,056 tons per year, totaling around 177,000 tons over its lifetime.

With this addition, Engie Romania’s total renewable capacity reaches 248 MW, including three wind farms totaling 178 MW and six solar plants totaling 70.3 MW. In 2024, Engie further expanded its portfolio by acquiring an 80 MW operational wind farm and launching its first hybrid power plant, combining wind and solar generation with a total capacity of 57 MW. Deputy General Manager Cristian Buzan emphasized that the new solar plant reinforces Engie’s position in Romania’s renewable market and supports the country’s goal of reaching 1,000 MW of installed green energy capacity by 2030.
