Romania, EC Oltenia sold on the OPCOM’s centralized market for bilateral contracts seven 50 MW packages of band energy

Romanian coal-based electricity producer Energy Complex (EC) Oltenia sold on the OPCOM’s centralized market for bilateral contracts seven 50 MW packages of band energy, totaling 108,000 MWh, with the delivery in the first quarter of 2022

The buyer is Electrica Furnizare, one of the largest electricity suppliers in the country. Electricity was sold at the asking price of 113.6 euros/MWh. Electrica was the sole bidder. Electrica’s CEO Corina Popescu said that the company has to provide electricity for its customers, and since this was the only offer in the market, Electrica had to buy it, even at increased price.

EC Oltenia did not sell electricity for the delivery in 2022 since April, and this was the highest price for 2022 achieved so far at OPCOM. Current market situation is very favorable for EC Oltenia, because of high electricity prices it is able to make a profit even with high CO2 emissions prices (57 euros/ ton).
