Romania: Decreased gas imports in Q1 2020

According to the Romanian draft Energy Strategy, about 400 oil and natural gas fields are exploited in Romania. For another 39 deposits, exploration and exploitation agreements were concluded, having as holders various companies. Most of these deposits are mature, with a lifespan of over 25-30 years.

In the first three months of 2020, Romania imported 629,600 tons of oil equivalent of natural gas, which is by 6.2 % or 41,700 tons of oil equivalent lower than in the same period of 2019. During the same period, domestic production of natural gas amounted to about 2.052 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 3 % or 64,300 tons of oil equivalent below that of January-March 2019.

The document also indicates that natural gas production will decline, after reaching a new peak of 132 TWh in 2025, as a result of production in the Black Sea, at 96 TWh in 2030 and 65 TWh in 2050.
