Romania: Day-ahead electricity prices drop 18% in October, trading volume up 46%

The average price of electricity on the day-ahead market of the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM was 89.7 euros/MWh in October 2024, marking a 15.46% decrease compared to the same month in 2023, and an 18.08% decline compared to the previous month, when the average baseload price was 109.48 euros/MWh.

The traded volume for the month reached 1.52 million MWh, which is 46.43% higher than in October 2023, and 7.57% more than in September. The average traded volume in October was 2,037.7 MWh/h. The total value of transactions for the month amounted to 149 million euros, a 29.7% increase from October 2023, which saw 114.9 million euros in transactions, but 11.58% lower compared to September, when the total value was 168.5 million euros.

In terms of market share, the day-ahead market accounted for 36.12% of forecasted net consumption in October 2024. On the intraday market, a total of 159,259 MWh was traded, which represents a 21.73% increase compared to October 2023, but a 4.93% decline from September. The average price on the intraday market was 80.94 euros/MWh, down 27.24% compared to October 2023, and 22.43% lower than the previous month.

Additionally, the total traded volume for bilateral contracts with delivery in October amounted to 863,000 MWh, with an average price of 98.57 euros/MWh.
