2.848 million tons of oil equivalent of crude oil, which is by 122,000 tons of oil equivalent (4.1 %) less than in the same period of 2020.

At the same time, crude oil imports amounted to 6.131 million tons of oil equivalent, some 3,000 tons of oil equivalent lower than in the previous year.

According to the estimates of the National Commission for Strategy and Forecast, domestic crude oil production for 2021 is estimated at 3.275 million tons of oil equivalent (- 3.2 % compared to 2020) and 3.2 million tons of oil equivalent in 2022 (- 2.3 %). Imports are expected to reach 8.425 million tons of oil equivalent this year (+ 20.7 %) and 8.815 million tons of oil equivalent in 2022 (+ 4.6 %).

Romania’s draft Energy Strategy estimates that crude oil production will continue its slow downward trend between 2030 and 2050, and will
decrease from 22 to 13 TWh (1.93 to 1.15 million tons of oil equivalent) in that period.
