Romania: Alerion Clean Power secures €18.5 million loan for 35 MW solar plant

Italian renewable energy company Alerion Clean Power has obtained €18.5 million in financing from Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) to support the construction of a new photovoltaic plant in Călărași County, Romania. The facility will have an installed capacity of 35 MW and represents a total investment of €26.8 million. The loan is scheduled to mature in 2040.

BCR highlighted its continued commitment to sustainable energy development and support for projects that contribute to local communities. The bank emphasized the value of its partnership with Alerion, praising the group’s role in advancing clean energy initiatives across Romania.

The project is a key step in Alerion Clean Power’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio across Europe. Listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, the company primarily produces electricity from wind power and has operations in Italy, Spain, Romania, and Bulgaria. Strengthening its footprint in Romania aligns with Alerion’s long-term vision of promoting clean energy in the region.

Alerion already operates several wind farms in Romania, including those in Auseu-Borod, Vrani, Jimbolia, and Sannicolau Mare. In 2024, it launched two 6 MW solar power plants in Periș, with a combined expected annual output of around 19 GWh. The new project in Călărași marks a significant addition to the company’s growing renewable energy portfolio in Southeast Europe.
