Region: Serbia and Hungary finalize plans for cross-border crude oil pipeline

Serbian state-owned company Transnafta and Hungarian energy group MOL have agreed on the technical specifications for a new crude oil pipeline that will connect the two countries. According to the Serbian Ministry of Energy, the pipeline will cover 113 kilometers within Serbian territory and will be capable of transporting up to 5 million tons of crude oil annually.

Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic announced that the final engineering documentation will be completed by the end of the year, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026. She stated that the project will play a key role in diversifying Serbia’s oil supply routes and enhancing energy security throughout the region.

Minister Djedovic also thanked the Hungarian government for its support in advocating to the United States for a delay in sanctions targeting Serbia’s national oil company, NIS. She described this as a reflection of the strong partnership between Serbia and Hungary and their mutual interest in maintaining regional supply stability. The uninterrupted operation of NIS, she added, is critical not only for Serbia’s energy system but for ensuring reliable energy distribution across Southeastern Europe.
